Communications Specialist - Sri Lanka

 

Market Development Facility (MDF) is an Australian Government funded multi-country initiative which promotes sustainable economic development, through higher incomes for women and men, in our partner countries. MDF connects individuals, businesses, governments and NGOs with each other, and with markets at home and abroad. This enhances investment and coordination and allows partnerships to flourish, strengthening inclusive economic growth. MDF is funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). It is implemented by Palladium in partnership with Swisscontact. In Sri Lanka, MDF works in tourism and authentic Sri Lankan goods.

Role

MDF Sri Lanka is seeking a Communications Specialist for the Country Team. The purpose of the Communications Specialist is to develop communications products and local strategies to communicate the effectiveness MDF's approach to the relevant stakeholders. Responsibilities

• Under the guidance of the Communications Director and Country Director, lead the implementation of MDF's Communication Strategy in-country.

• Generate high-quality content for all relevant MDF communications formats.

• Work closely with the Country Team to identify and capture relevant content and stories.

• Lead the production of visual media products.

• Lead the creative and strategic management of MDF Sri Lanka's social media platforms.

• Organise events/high-level visits and generate media coverage.

 


Eligibility criteria:

• At least a bachelor's degree (Masters preferred) in a relevant discipline: journalism, communications, marketing, the social sciences.

• Excellent command of both verbal and written English. Sinhala and Tamil fluency would be an added advantage.

• Demonstrated ability to write high-quality, engaging content quickly.

• Demonstrated ability to edit written material into concise, engaging formats.

• Highly adept in the creative use of social media, including mining engagement analytics.

• Strong working knowledge of MS Office programs. Knowledge of and ability to use other relevant software preferred (photo/video editing and graphic design).

• Experience with website back-end work.

• Demonstrated ability to organise high-quality events.

• High-level planning, multi-tasking and time management skills

• Experience producing video and other multimedia products preferred.

• Good media contacts and ability to engage with local (and international) media

• Willingness to work in a challenging environment and travel nationally and internationally.

 

The position is open to Sri Lankan nationals and permanent residents with authority to live and work in Sri Lanka. Rates of pay are based on local labour standards and a competitive remuneration package await a high-quality candidate. The chosen candidate will be required to provide a police clearance certificate. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.
