POST OF VENARABLE VICE-CHANCELLOR


Applications are invited from eminently qualified Bhikkhus who are well versed in Discipline and Doctrine in Buddhist Studies and Pali to take over the leadership of the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka as its Venerable Vice-Chancellor according to the provisions of the Buddhist and Pali University Act No. 74 of 1981 as amended by the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka (Amendment) Act No. 37 of 1995. The appointment is for a period of three years. 

The Head Office of the university is located at No 37, Moragahahena Road, Pitipana, Homagama. 

Venerable Vice-Chancellor is a full time officer of the university. He shall be the Principal Executive Officer, the Principal Academic Officer and the Accounting Officer of the university. He shall be an ex-officio member and Chairman of both the Council, and the Senate. The applicant should not be over 62 years of age as at 31.10.2020. The Vice-Chancellor shall, unless he vacates office earlier or removed from office in terms of the University Act, holds office for a term of three years which is the duration of the veship or he completes his sixty fifth year, whichever occurs earlier.

The Venerable Vice-Chancellor will be responsible for providing academic leadership, formulating and introducing management policies and implementing the decisions of the Council. He will be responsible for the general administration of the university and in doing so, uphold the principles of academic excellence, transparency, accountability, democratic, management and effective non partisan leadership. 

The successful candidate should possess a record of high academic achievement including a strong research profile, proven leadership qualities and interpersonal skill to interact objectively with diverse interest groups, a clear understanding of policy issues and a commitment to the effective implementation of decisions. The Venerable Vice-Chancellor should also possess a deep understanding of the ethos and mission of the university including commitment to the community.

The Venerable Vice-Chancellor is eligible to be placed at the highest academic salary scale and be paid other allowances approved by the University Grants Commission. He will be provided an official vehicle with fuel allowance and residential facilities in the University premises. 

The following documents should accompany applications/nominations. The applicant/nominee may be required to present his vision for the university to the Council.

  1. A complete Curriculum Vitae of applicant/nominee including the date of birth. 
  2. A personal statement of vision for the university indicating what the candidate expects to achieve if appointed. 
  3. A letter of consent from the nominee in case of nomination. 
  4. A letter from the employer indicating whether applicant/nominee could be released in the event of his appointment to the post, in case of an applicant/nominee serving in public service, corporation, statutory body and higher educational institution other than the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka.

Applications/nominations should be addressed to the "Secretary of the Council, Registrar's Office, Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka, No 37, Moragahahena Road, Pitipana Town, Homagama" and sent under registered cover or hand delivered to reach him on or before 4.15 p.m. on 10th July 2020

As Per the provisions of the Act for appointments , three eligible candidates, respectively selected by the council from the applicants/nominees, will be forwarded to the Ministry of Higher Education, Technology and Innovations.

The envelope containing the application/nomination with relevant material must be marked "Post of Venerable Vice-Chancellor" on its top left corner.
